Recipes To Make This Christmas Even Sweeter
The giving and receiving of gifts between friends and family is an important part of modern day Christmas. However, given the global recession, buying gifts is the last thing that many people want to do right now. But not all gifts have to be purchased you know, making delicious treats are a great alternative. Here are a couple of recipe ideas from IWOOT.
Fudge. You’ll need:
• A non-stick heavy-based saucepan
• A candy thermometer
• Some oven-proof trays
• 1lb fine white sugar, ½ pint semi-skimmed milk, 2oz soft butter, 14oz condensed milk.
Method: Whilst frequently stirring, mix and melt all the ingredients in the pan slowly. The mixture should start to become a rich creamy-brown colour as it approaches 115oC on the thermometer. Take off the heat and stir until mixture becomes very tough and grainy. Pour mixture into the baking trays, smooth out and leave to set. When the mix has had a chance to cool and harden, cut it up and offer it round
Chocolate Chip Cookies. Here's whats needed
• Bowl for mixing
• Grease-proof paper
• Baking trays
• 4.5oz plain flour, 2.5oz butter, 1 egg, 2oz brown sugar,2oz caster sugar, 4oz choc chips, ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Method: Add flour, sugar, butter, vanilla extract, and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl and mix together well with your hands or a spoon if you don't want to get mucky. Add the egg and continue mixing until the mixture is doughy and a little sticky. Roll the mixture into golf sized balls and places them onto the baking trays which you have pre-lined with grease-proof paper. Leave a good couple of inches between each ball as they will spread out and expand. Cook for around 12 mins in the oven at 180 oC, but keep checking they don’t burn as every oven varies.
