Tips For Organizing The Kitchen
Over time, we tend to accumulate too many things in the kitchen. Many items we keep are never used. When cookware becomes soiled with age, it is sometimes best to part ways. Especially when the poor quality affects your cooking. If you have unusable items like old, dented square cake pans and burnt cookie sheets lying around, you may be overdue for a cleaning.
The first thing to go are old pots and pans. Many of these items are just too inferior to the standards of today. Many older pots were made very thin. Unless you go camping a lot, you might as well let go of those thin sauce pans. Also, lose those too thin round cake pans. There are much better bake ware products available.
Pans with flaking or missing bits of Teflon have long passed their expiration date. These unsightly space fillers should be deposited directly into the trash bin. Those old Teflon pieces will not do anyone a favor! At this point, you might as well toss anything you find that shows rust or heavy burn marks. You do not want to cook with items like these.
Another tip to eliminate kitchen clutter is to dump anything made from old plastic. Plastic is not the most durable material, and as time passes, plastic can deteriorate. Often, plastic can become hard and brittle before it eventually breaks apart. Certain plastics can transfer off incredibly bad odors to your cooking. It can easily ruin an otherwise good meal. This can especially happen when you are cooking over a stove top.
I bet that kitchen of yours is starting to look nice again. But wait, hold up! Nobody said to throw everything away. Come back here with those vintage cookie cutters. People will pay you money for those. If you are lucky to have some unwanted Pyrex nesting bowls, you can sell them. Some of your old kitchen stuff could bring you some extra cash to hide under the mattress of your loft bed.
If you have a bunch of chipped coffee cups in your cupboard, you have waited to long to clean! You may keep a few of those for small potted plants but kindly throw those out. Chances are, even the homeless are not interested in those! What else do you have? An ugly serving set still in the box? Chances are somebody gave it to you. Those can be donated to someone who has less than you do. Basically, just get rid of the obvious. This includes tacky souvenir glasses and plastic containers that have turned orange. If you have scratched and stained tumblers that even you wouldn't drink from, say goodbye to those as well.
Now for the jars and tin cans. How many of those do you possibly need? Yes, it is nice to have a jar or two around. You have way too many jars. It does not matter that you have washed them and removed the label. Let them go! For the rest of the kitchen items that you want to keep but do not necessarily use, remove them to an attic or closet.
