Hot water bottles, retro phones and many other unusual gifts
Some furry mammals hibernate in the winter, the opposite applies to the common hot water bottle that is seen in great numbers. You are not likely to catch a glimpse of it until the first signs of winter begin to appear. Well, what do you know! There it is at the bottom of the bed
Of course this is nonsense, but I just wanted to highlight that for most of us a hot water bottle is an aesthetically-challenged object. i don't have a clue when was the last time that I actually went into a shop and bought one. it would have probably been a last minute Christmas present for an elderly relative.
As a country we still appear to have an unbreakable link to them. In fact we were once lampooned by a Hungarian born author by the name of George Mikes. In his cheeky book 'How to be an alien', he mentions "Continental people have sex lives, the English have hot water bottles". There may have been elements of truth in the jibe, particularly when thinking of the dour designs of the past. These words probably reflect the way a typical person on the continent sees the English attitude to sex.
But wait! Many things have changed since then. Could it be possible that these things have become ‘sexy’? I found this site the other day that stocks styles and shapes that are quite different. If ever I was looking for something slightly quirky or different that couldn't be found in the high street, this site would be the first place to look. They have everything here, from a buddha statue to retro phones, and most things in between!
For anyone interested solely in hot water bottles, the ones that appealed to me were the cushioned shaped products. All of my favourites looked extremely comfortable and probably had therapeutic values, particularly for suffers of neck and lower back pain.
