A Day At The Races: The Questions You Have Answered
The entire family can enjoy spending the day watching the races. If it's your first time at the races, the below questions may be some that cross your mind.
How Many Races Will There Be?
Races typically occur about every half hour, and 6 to 7 races occur when a meet takes place. Typically, in winter, meets start around 1 pm, and in summer, around 2 pm.
What can be expected in the way of food and drinks?
You can find coffee, sodas, and alcoholic beverages at the majority of race tracks. Hamburgers, frankfurters, Asian food, and baked potatoes are typical fast food van fare. Some racecourses also offer cafeterias and restaurants. Bookings are usually required at restaurants.
What to Wear?
If a big race is taking place, you may be required to wear formal attire. Most racecourse grandstands require smart casual dress. But in other places you might not have to dress a certain way.
Can Kids Be Let In At No Cost?
Kids 15 and under can get in at no cost when they come with an adult. That might change depending on what races are being run.
Do I pay to park?
You'll probably be able to park for free at some tracks on regular days, but when there are special events going on you will need to pay a fee and might even have to make a reservation ahead of time.
When Should I Arrive There?
To play it safe, be sure to come to the race track at least a half hour prior to the running of the first race. By doing so, you can learn your way around.
Is It Okay To Bring Food In?
Most race tracks have specific areas where people are allowed to picnic. Premier or Grandstand do not allow outside food in their Enclosures
Do you know what the Paddock or Parade Ring is?
The place where race horses can be on parade before a race is called the paddock. This is an excellent place to get a good look at the horses up close. Also, the racehorse trainers can usually be seen giving instructions to their jockey in the paddock. The parade ring is where the winning horse will go to have their photograph taken with their prize. Usually only the horse and its jockey, groom, trainer, and owner have permission to be within the parade ring.
How Does Betting with a Bookmaker Work?
You must let the bookmaker know the name of the horse and the bet you want to place. You will get a receipt which you have to hold on to in the event that you win.
