My Little Peace Of Heaven In Canada
My Grandfather recently told me how he used to take holidays in Canada and also about a house that he used to own there . He told me the story of how it came into his possession and then he described it. The way he described it sounded out of this world and I thought I had to share it.
It was a cabin that was positioned on the banks of Primrose Lake in Alberta. It was a big enough house with huge open rooms and a large stone fireplace. The structure was comprised of hardwood and stone and was put together completely by hand.He found an old photograph of the place and it looked truly stunning.
During the summer months he would fish in his little boat for hours on end. You cannot understand the sound of silence he told me, it’s the most beautiful thing on earth.The world we live in bombards us with constant noise from vechiles, machinery or people doing something. But not here. Here was silent. He said that he would often fall asleep for a long time in that little boat and drift across the lake to the other side
When the winter came and the lake froze over, he would go ice skating on it and cut holes in the ice to drop his fishing rods into. He then would carry whatever he had caught to the house and both he and my grandmother would eat it in front of the roaring fire.
It all sounded like something out of a fairytale. And that is why, after hearing my grandfathers story, I am heading out there soon for a canada fly drive holiday to look for a place of my own on that same lake. Sadly the house that my grandfather used to live is isn't not available but I will find somewhere that is the same as possible.
