Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate
Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate or FOJC began right after reliable refrigeration systems were designed. In the early days of orange juice, industry generally depended on salvaged fruits. Such fruits however had been not fit for regular usage because most were out of shape, rotten or badly colored.
All of the improvements in pasteurization along with the creation of porcelain-lined containers during the 1930’s triggered enhanced juice quality plus the juice business greatly expanded. In the mid 1940s, experts discovered ways to concentrate fruit juice within a vacuum pressure and freeze it without spoiling the nutritional content and quality.
Frozen orange juice concentrate provided the troops of World War II delectable and nutritious juice. It grew to be such a hit on the American public and very soon after, it extended around the globe. After WWII, the sales of FOJC increased because most US residents have discontinued making their own personal juices.
Lately, the frozen orange juice market have seen a dramatic progress around the globe because of the progress of technological innovation in packaging as well as easy access to mass transportation.
Oranges are extracted in massive volumes when making FOJC. To help make the juice concentrated, heat and vacuum is needed to eliminate some of the water.
Sugar levels in oranges are usually calculated by using a “brix scale”. Once marketed to consumers, the brix level of orange juice concentrate is at 42. Putting drinking water to the FOJC to generate orange juice will bring the brix level down to 11 or 12. FOJC is 3 times more concentrated compared to standard orange juice.
Generating frozen orange juice concentrate though isn't as tough as you will envision. It can be performed within the convenience of your personal home.
Let me reveal how to get it done:
First, put fresh orange juice in a narrow necked plastic container just like a jug. Allow space for expansion, cover and freeze. When the juice is totally frozen, take away the cover and suspend the container upside down over another container. Enable the frozen orange juice thaw drip by drip towards the lower container until finally there is only ice remaining. Just discard the remaining ice as you won’t need that anymore.
Next, put back the segregated juice into your empty jug and simply repeat the freezing and dripping procedure two more times to make a fine concentrate.
Lastly, place the orange juice concentrate inside of a jar or put it on ice trays and freeze again.
You now have a self made frozen orange juice concentrate to enjoy at any time you like. You should try it and enjoy!
