Public Opinion About Amstaff Breeders

One of the most controversial dog breeds within the world will be the pit bull. Pit bulls have gained a reputation over the years as being a hazardous dog to own simply because of its history of being bred with an emphasis on its dog fighting abilities. You can find three main types of pit bulls recognized by most dog specialists and dog breed organizations and they're the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, plus the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier presents an extraordinary mix of intelligence, courage, and tenacity tempered with a sweet affection for it's family. As a breed, it can be typically shrouded in myth and misconception about it is history and origin.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or "Staffie", as fans of the breed call it, dates back to Elizabethan England when an ancestor of the Bulldog was applied in a bloody sport called bullbaiting (also bearbaiting).

American Pit Bull Terrier
The American Pit Bull Terrier was brought to the United States by immigrants coming from England, Scotland, and Ireland. The dog can be a result of interbreeding between terriers and bulldogs. American Pit Bull Terrier combination of strength and intelligence makes them quite productive as law enforcement dogs and security dogs.

The dogs found their solution to the United States in the mid to late 1800s and swiftly became popular with breeders and owners. The American Staffordshire Terrier is typically heavier and thicker than the American version.

Around the 19th century, when bullbaiting was outlawed, dog fighting easily gained popularity and the enormous bullbaiting dogs had been crossed with smaller terriers and a smaller, faster breed of dog was born, weighing about 60 pounds. This dog became identified as a "Bulldog Terrier" or "Bull and Terrier" and was additional refined by outcrosses to an ancestor of the Manchester Terrier. This produced a dog of about 30-45 pounds that came to be known as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which will be the father breed out of which came the English Bull Terrier (1860), and later, when exported to North America about 1880, the American Pit Bull Terrier and also the American Staffordshire Terrier.

However, when the American Pit Bull Terrier was entered into the AKC registry, the name was changed to American Staffordshire Terrier, as noted by the AKC on their website, http://www.akc.org, "As the breed moved to America the names Pitdog and Pitbull Terrier stuck. However, American breeders wanted an animal heavier than the British breed, hence the name American Staffordshire Terrier. This is the breed generally referred to as Pit Bull."

I should also suggest that you read info to do with Pitbull Health Problems and Amstaff Breeders.
