Father Of The Groom Toast – Tips In Preparing
Everyone who has tried writing a father of the groom toast before would agree that it is not the final leg of speech writing that is difficult, it's the first few lines. The weeks bring your son's wedding closer but no miracle has made a speech fall on your lap. If you are troubled by the speech you have to prepare, we have prepared some solutions that could help you. Discussed here are some of them:
Write the ideas that come to your mind – Never mind that the idea is not brilliant enough, just don’t shoot it them. Doing so will encourage more ideas to flow. Only after you have finished writing your first draft should you edit the content of your speech. This is the phase when you will separate brilliant ideas from the not-so-brilliant ones.
Use regular English – Many people fall into the trap of using highfaluting words, thinking that it could make them look more impressive. The truth is, big words seldom impress an audience. When your speech is incomprehensible, their interest would die down and eventually you'd be left with only a few who would listen to you out of respect. When writing your speech, try not to use a dictionary, just your instincts when it comes to language.
Use a coherent theme – Don't compress so much information and varying ideas into one paragraph. This would leave your audience wondering the point you're getting at. Use a cohesive theme for the entire speech and use minimal sub-topics if necessary.
Keep it brief – Don’t drag your speech with boring and extensive details. It is always better to have a short speech that entertains your audience than a long one that bores them.
Introduce who you are – Many in the audience might know you but there could also be some who don't. For the sake of the people who don’t know who you are, briefly introduce yourself. When preparing your speech, you may or may not include this part, nevertheless you should remember to say it before you deliver your speech.
Don’t touch the alcohol – You may be tempted to drink beer or wine before your speech to help calm your nerves. But no matter how powerful your desire to take a sip, hold it until you're done delivering your speech. This will help you deliver an excellent speech without the trouble of slurring through it.
Remember the toast – The father of the groom toast is made exactly to allow the speaker to offer a toast to the newlyweds. This is where best wishes, hopes for a good future, and further advises may be expressed.
