Living On Groupons For A Year Is The Groupawn Goal
Groupons are assisting the lifestyle of Josh Stevens for a year. The online coupon business came up with the Groupon challenge campaign earlier this year. Groupon dared someone to survive off nothing but unlimited free Groupons for a year. Stevens went for it. Living life as the "Groupawn," he's about a quarter of the way through his year of travelling the country chasing Groupon deals for his basic needs. The necessities of life can include yoga classes, carriage rides and lots of food in Stevens' Groupon world.
Groupon blog tracks discounted adventures
Former corporate auditor Stevens accepted the Groupon challenge in May and left his cubicle behind. In an interview with CNN, he said he hit the road wearing a paper suit made of Groupons and carried nothing but the shoes socks and underwear he wore. A laptop, camera, internet card and phone were also supplied by Groupon.Stevens isn't allowed to use money, checks or credit cards, but he has all the online coupons an individual could possible use. He has to go it alone, while family and friends are allowed only five visits lasting less than a day.He shares his experiences within the Groupawn blog as he uses Groupon coupons to barter for sustenance.
Groupawn guy gains in popularity
Stevens wins $ 100,000 if he completes the challenge. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel talked with Stevens last weekend.He was passing through in pursuit of the next Groupon deal. Stevens told the Sentinel that he thought he would have to do a lot more bartering on the street. But when he talks about what he's doing individuals want to become part of it.A little more than three months into his Groupons quest, he arrived in Milwaukee after chasing bargains in several other cities including in New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C..
Cashing in - The Groupon business model
Daily specials offered by local merchants are sold as Groupons on the company's website. About 11 million individuals in 165 markets subscribe to the Groupon site in 22 countries. A Groupon promotion launched by a Chicago bagel business sold an $ 8 voucher for any menu item for $ 3. Local subscribers to Groupon snapped up $ 10,000 coupons. After selling about $ 80,000 worth of food, the bagel shop netted just $ 15,000 after splitting the proceeds with Groupon.
