Instructions For Finding The Best Flag Case
An encased American flag: normally placed in a small triangular box or glass case in honor of a deceased firefighter, veteran or police officer. Each year, more than half a million cases are given to the families of fallen military servicemen to pay respect to the tremendous sacrifice they made for their country. Assembled from oak, mahogany and walnut, these cases are engineered to maintain the look of the flag, but also to honor the fallen, and some companies may even engrave the name on the front of the wood.
Types of Flag Cases
Display cases for flags usually come in either the shape of a triangular-wooden frame with a glass cover or a framed glass case with a colored background to go with the flag. Triangular frames tend to have a standard measurement, while square cases do not; most triangular frames come in either 3’ x 5’ or 4’ x 6’ dimensions; however, these measurements change depending on the flag size. Standard U.S. flags will always fit inside either of these two cases, as most government-issue flags measure 1.9’ in length and 1.0’ in width. When it comes to customers wanting to honor their loved ones, most tend to buy triangular frames because they are much easier to hang with most government-issued flags. Unlike a triangular frame, glass cases, or shadow boxes, tend to allow a flag to be fully extended and hung, but the cost is often a bit more for a shadow box than for a wooden frame.
Glass Engravings
Flag cases often include some form of engraving either on the wood or glass case, and typically use either the Great Seal of the United States or the name of the deceased. When you choose to buy flag cases, you should be aware of your engraving selections, as some companies will allow you only to engrave the glass and not the wood.
Folding
Companies who specialize in display cases often offer you folding instructions for flags, and these steps are typically made for flags that fit inside wooden cases and not glass cases. Companies include these guides because flags must be folded a specific way in order to ensure the flags fit correctly inside cases, and if you do not follow the instructions, you could break the glass or even worse, damage a flag itself.
No matter where you purchase your Display Case from, you are sure to locate several options in terms of colors, wood materials and engraving options. The price, frame model and frame style are not as critical as how you choose to show respect for your loved one.
